ABOUT DRESDEN

Dresden is cultural hub, rightly celebrated for its art, museums, splendid architecture and music.

You’ll find that just strolling around the city is itself a cultural education, with extraordinary Baroque architecture everywhere you look. The best known landmarks are the 18th century Zwinger Palace which contains fabulous art collections, and the Semperoper Opera House where you can see both opera and ballet. One of the most beautiful sights is the Frauenkirche or Church of Our Lady, symbolising peace and reconciliation.

Dresden is justly proud of its music, as it has been for some 700 years. The State Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic and Kreuzchor boys’ choir provide classical offerings, whilst jazz-lovers will love the International Dixieland Festival each year. If you’re into film, don’t miss the Filmnächte – film nights on the banks of the River Elbe during summer.

Science and technology experience equal recognition, making the younger side of Dresden worth exploring too. The all-glass VW car plant & the buzzing Dresdner Neustadt area add to the city’s cultural life.
